10 Most Anticipated PC Games of 2020

A collage of neato games coming in 2020

Wow. Where did that year go hey? We're now in the last month of 2019 so it's a good time to check out the annual 10 Most Anticipated PC Games of 2020 (according to Choicest Games, of course)!

This year, I've again managed to recruit the help of my wife as a judge but I've also experimented with the idea of a third judge based off the popularity of a game, at least according to search terms on Google Trends. It's by no means a perfect measure of how many people are anticipating a particular game, but there were a few games that seemed to clearly be searched on Google more often than the rest, so it did help to give some weight to AAA titles (otherwise, the entire list would probably be dominated by indie games). I sorted the popularity of the games into three tiers with 0 votes for the lowest tier, 1 vote for the middle tier and 2 votes for the top tier (there was only one game that made the top tier).

The Judges

Mark G

Mark founded the blog Choicest Games in 2008 and has been playing PC games since the 1980s. He has an eclectic taste in games but his favourite genres include point 'n' click adventures, First Person Shooters and almost anything to do with sci-fi. He is also leader of the social guild/clan Gamers of Choice.

Lanna

Lanna is Mark G's wife and being the supportive wife that she is has contributed reviews and her input on the running of the blog. Lanna enjoys puzzle games, FPSs and Civilization. She was also at one stage world champion at Everyday Genius Squarelogic.

Google Trends

A website launched by Google in 2006 that analyses the popularity of top search queries in Google Search. The website uses graphs to compare the search volume of different queries over time.

How the list was made

An arbitrary list of 60 games was compiled (less than last year's 76) through a combination of me scouring the Internet for exciting PC titles coming out next year as well as any the contributors could find as well. I used the same scoring as previous years where contributors were given a choice of three potential scores:

0 = Not interested in the game at all
1 = Slightly interested. Keeping my eyes on it and/or will buy it if there's nothing better to get
2 = Must-buy. I will buy it on release or I've already pre-ordered it.

Contributors were asked to assign a 0, 1 or 2 to each of the games on the list. I would then count up the total score and then sort the list by score in descending order.

Like previous years, it wasn't easy to pick the game that took the number one spot; in fact, it was probably more difficult than last year since instead of a two-way tie for three points, this year there were five games that achieved a total of three points. 10 games achieved a total score of 2 which meant in order to get a top 10, I had to discard five of them. Games that managed to score at least one point or two points from the judges (but were not included in the Top 10) were included in the Honourable Mentions list for this year. In cases where games had the same score from the judges, I ranked them in order of popularity by the PC gaming community at large (at least, in my opinion anyway :)).

One game on this list has appeared in last year's list (it's been delayed a few times) and this year, crowdfunded projects are again well represented with 5 games on the list starting life on Kickstarter or Fig.
