In-game cinematic of Jaxon acquiring an ax in Soundfall
GNARLY DUDE

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Wednesday to update readers on what I've been playing during the week (this also includes games on my "Pile of Shame"). The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Soundfall

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 20%

I've got back into Soundfall and even played a level with one of Frank Klepacki's tracks which was awesome. It happened to be the one where Jaxon (the second Hero you unlock in the game) acquires his special weapon in which happens to be an ax (geddit?)! Interestingly, Jaxon's melee attacks work differently to Melody's: unlike Melody's quick slashes, you have to charge up Jaxon's attack to, um, charge his enemies. His special melee attack involves leaping into a mob and causing splash damage within a certain radius, a bit like the Barbarian class in Diablo II.

It's going to be a bit of a grind to get through this game but I do enjoy the music. I still need to try it in multiplayer.

Snow Problem

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 100%

I've completed Snow Problem and a review is on the way! It's probably my favourite out of Dave Seaman's non-adventure games yet.

Need for Speed Heat

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 75%

I've been focusing on the main story and I'm actually about 75% of the way through the game as I've completed Chapter 3. Things are starting to get serious for Ana and Lucas but I guess that's what happens when you expose a crooked cop, they don't take the news very well. I discovered that despite the rating for my off-road vehicle (a Ford Focus) being about 30 points lower than what is recommended for races, I can still pull off wins, go figure. Just for fun, I've also modded a Volkswagen Beetle into a race car that can compete against my Lamborghini Countach (ahhh the beauty of the Need for Speed games). I had to replace the Beetle's engine though from its default 101hp 1.2L Flat 4 to a 369hp 1.5L i3 hybrid engine (which is apparently used in the 2018 BMW i8 Coupe).
