This level had be perplexed for far too long

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Wednesday to update readers on what I've been playing during the week (this also includes games on my "Pile of Shame"). The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

I've only got a few more levels to go then I've completed all 100 of them. The latter levels definitely feel like they're more challenging but the game is addictive and it mixes the need for strategy (i.e. figuring out the location and sequence of placing or removing ramps) as well as good hand-to-eye coordination when actually placing dots on the screen. In fact, one of the more annoying aspects of the game is the amount of precision you require to create ramps since if you don't draw them correctly you'll introduce leaks. On one hand, I understand you can't make the game too easy since if you allow perfect lines to be drawn by just selecting two points, there'd be almost no challenge at all. However, there have been many times where I'd only notice a leak in a ramp at the last minute which basically spells game over for the attempt. It's like figuring out the way to solve the puzzle is only half the challenge: you have to be coordinated enough to implement it too!

I also think score-based achievements along with leaderboards would be a welcome addition. The Ancient Art of Staying Alive implemented this well and it encourages players to return to levels in order to beat high scores. How one would actually implement it for this particular game, I'm not sure (I'm guessing it would be shortest time or something along those lines).

Anyway, hoping to finish this soon so I can finally review it.

Battlefield 2042

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 100%

A new update came out recently: version 2.2. Unfortunately, since the update, my computer has frozen a couple of times (and it's happened on my wife's machine too). Turning on the FPS count based off CPU and GPU in the top right corner, there are some massive framerate drops caused by the CPU and when it reaches 0, the game freezes. It's incredibly frustrating and it's basically impossible to play the game in its current state. So I will probably stop playing Battlefield 2042 until they release another patch.
