Weekly Round-Up Wednesday - 24th August 2022

Not exactly the most inconspicuous car to tail someone...

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Wednesday to update readers on what I've been playing during the week (this also includes games on my "Pile of Shame"). The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

I'm slowly unlocking things. You get 20,000XP for playing the first round of the day at the moment which is double what you normally get. I tried out another potential solution to fix the loading screen issue I was having. A redditor suggested that ensuring Cloud Saves are turned on for the game in Origin fixes the issue. It's curious why it was off by default and I noticed that sometimes, despite me having turned the PC off, logging back in won't trigger the issue, which suggests it's not a hardware issue and more an online connectivity or login issue.

Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue. In fact, it turns out that and a whole bunch of so-called fixes, didn't work, including:

  • clearing the cache
  • re-installing display drivers in safe mode
  • re-installing the game
  • re-installing Origin

All of them didn't work.

The last thing to try is reformatting and I don't want to cross that line. So, I'll just have to put up with the game not loading properly half of the time.

In recent news, DICE is planning to bring back classes into the game which I'm looking forward to. They're also going to bring in a couple of new weapons, a new map and a new Specialist for the next season. Two existing maps will also be reworked to be more infantry-focused and two oldschool weapons (the M16 and M60) will also be introduced into the main game.

Need for Speed Heat

I've finally decided to continue with the main story. I did level up my rep to 23 which did unlock some new hardware for my rally car but the returns are minimal. I've come to realise the car rating is skewed towards the on-road racing since the closer you to get to that (regardless of how powerful the vehicle actually is) the higher rating. This means that off-road vehicles require the most investment for an equivalent rating (i.e. if you want a level 240 off-road vehicle, it'll actually require more money and time invested into it). Consequently, although I've almost upgraded my rally car to level 200, I think that storyline will be left on the back burner, which is why I've continued with the main plot with my level 240 street racing car: the Lamborghini Countach.

It seems that not all cops on the force are crooked and your character along with Ana gets tipped off on the illegal activities. This is pretty cool because it allows you to become undercover heroes of sorts.
