Tried my best to make my Ford Focus RS look like a rally car |
The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Wednesday to update readers on what I've been playing during the week (this also includes games on my "Pile of Shame"). The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.
Battlefield 2042
- Picked by Me
- Percentage Complete = 100%
Well I've managed to play a bit more of Battlefield 2042. The last solution I tried half-works. It basically involves turning on a DirectX 12 flag in some configuration file but it's dubious whether it's meant to do anything or not. Half of the people online seem to swear by it saying it gives a 20 FPS boost or gets rid of their loading screen issues altogether. The other half says it doesn't do anything at all since Battlefield 2042 by default runs off DirectX 12. Anyway, my next solution to try was to reinstall the game or reformat the hard disk, so I thought why not try this solution since it required less effort than the other two.
I say the solution "half-works" because unfortunately, I still have an issue where the loading screen hangs sometimes and I have to Alt+F4 the game and try again. However, when I try again, I thankfully don't need to go through the tutorial or reinitialise my settings and the game just boots like normal. So at least I don't need to waste my time as much anymore. I think this is a good enough solution until such time I decide to get myself a new computer which is definitely on the cards now.
Need for Speed Heat
- Picked by Me
- Percentage Complete = 45%
I'm at a stage of the game where I'd like to perform more off-road events. I've bought a Ford Focus RS and souped it up as a rally car but the performance rating of the car is a measly 180 points and I'm already in 240 territory. I think I need better performance parts for it but I'm still too low in terms of my rep level to purchase better parts. I think I need to get to level 23 and so that's why I've been investing a lot more of my time in illegal street races.
Also, turns out being busted by the cops isn't all that it's cracked up to be. True, you could always rebuild your wealth by winning previous races but if you've built up a lot of rep during the night, the rep you gain from being busted by the cops is really a minor consolation prize. So, best not to do it, and that's the way it should be. However, I've found it's very difficult to evade cops once you've got more than one on your tail and they're just targeting you. During a race, it's okay because provided you're in front of the pack, the rest of your opponents will keep the cops occupied. Otherwise, it's game over. I'll need to investigate all the tools you have at your disposal with respect to evading cops to see if there is anything I'm missing.
In terms of cars unlocked, I've just purchased a Lamborghini Countach which is a sweet looking ride. Definitely getting a synthwave vibe now (I mean, the game is set in a fictional version of Miami after all).
I'm also revising my Percentage Complete since I've almost played the game for 23 hours now and it doesn't look I'm even close to finishing the game. I think I'll use the 47 hours Completionist score now so you'll have noticed the Percentage Complete has dropped slightly. I've also sadly experienced a couple of video card crashes which really sucks. It seems that my new video card (RX 6600) is less stable than my previous NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti.
