The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Wednesday to update readers on what I've been playing during the week (this also includes games on my "Pile of Shame"). The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

One step forward, two steps back. A recent patch seems to have made servers unstable. Not to mention I've had a couple of issues entering the game where the loading icon disappears and it just hangs. I've also experienced issues in-game where character models freeze mid-air. It's really not doing DICE and EA any favours if they're wanting player numbers to return to the similar levels experienced when the game initially came out. It's going to take a lot of work to rebuild that trust and this isn't the way to go about it.

I've recently unlocked the crossbow but I'm really not that tempted to use it, you know? Although I probably should just to satisfy my curiosity. Otherwise, still enjoying the new season and slowly plodding along unlocking stuff.

Need for Speed Heat

I didn't realise this game has a damage model. During races, I've noticed little scratches here and there but they seemed cosmetic and I didn't think you actually received any structural damage. However, in my last cop chase, I actually failed to evade the cops and was busted. This is because they actually damaged my vehicle until a health bar (that I had never noticed before) went to 0. You don't really get punished too much though. Sure, I lost all my money but I received a huge boost to reputation points as a result and that's still a win in my books! Your car is also fully repaired so you're only really losing a bit of time that was spent earning the money in the first place (which is probably a fairly lenient system).

I also now have a Honda Civic Type-R! Woohoo! I've been upgrading this one quite a bit. Looks like the game does have drift events (I was wondering where they were) but I'm not really a fan of them. I may have to get another car for drifting since the Civic Type-R has been upgraded in such a way that it's very much specced out for on-road racing and not drifting.

I've made more progress with the story: Ana's car got impounded by a very aggressive and unprofessional police officer. I'm guessing at some point we'll try to get it back, perhaps.

I've also experienced three Crashes to Desktop while playing this game. I don't know if it has anything to do with me running an AMD card but it's kind of annoying. I may have to investigate further to see if anyone else is experiencing the issue.
