Fighting the inner critic

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Disco Elysium

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 44%

I've been focusing on Psychonauts this week so I didn't get time to play this.

Pillars of Eternity

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 10%

Psychonauts

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 38%

I've completed a couple more missions this week. One of them involved entering the mind of a guy called Boyd who is found trying to enter an asylum. The mission was pretty crazy (no pun intended) and I'm still not quite sure what the hell happened or what it all means but it does involve a conspiracy surrounding a milkman, of all things.

The second mission I completed was one exploring the mind of an actress. While I really hated the jumping puzzles, what I do love about this game is how they explore concepts related to mental health, such as this mission where you're fighting a critic but for all intents and purposes it might as well be your inner critic as at the conclusion of the mission, the critic still exists but he's a lot smaller and consequently not as influential anymore. I really liked what they did here and it's definitely one of the strengths of this game.
