The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition

I've completed Mass Effect 2! Sure, I didn't explore absolutely every star cluster and complete every side quest (I think I missed two star clusters in the end) but I did a decent chunk. The reason Mass Effect 2 is my favourite is mainly thanks to the loyalty quests that you can complete which gives you heaps more insight into how each of your party members tick. Getting to know your party members better I daresay is critical to when you plan for the suicide mission since you want to make sure you have the right people for the right jobs which means knowing each of their strengths and weaknesses. Also, the game does punish those that rely on the usual RPG trope where you leave the main quest alone while you complete side quests since if you do so after recovering the system that allows you to jump safely through the Omega 4 Relay, you will suffer adverse consequences. Some might find this a bit of a trolololol move by Bioware, but I personally like it (maybe because I wasn't burned the first time I did it).

Also, I never played the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the banter between Shepard and Liara (there's even an in-joke about omni-gel) and the DLC is a must for those that romanced Liara in the first Mass Effect.

Unfortunately, my experience with Mass Effect 2 wasn't completely perfect as the game crashed to Desktop at one point and I experienced some bad framerate drops at other times. I never experienced these issues with the original game.

I've now started playing Mass Effect 3 and it has the best combat experience out of all three games, in my humble opinion. It's probably because it feels closer to an action game than an RPG, such as being able to add attachments to your guns and each gun is a unique weapon with different stats (a bit like Battlefield). No longer are the stats for the gun hidden like it is in Mass Effect 2 nor do the guns have different levels like they do in Mass Effect 1.
