Gotta love that random trivia

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Disco Elysium

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 31%

I've made substantial progress. Unfortunately it looks like I'm a lackey of the Union since after talking to the Union boss who agreed to help me get the body down from the tree, I had to temporarily guard Measurehead's post while he brought the body down: his post happens to be in front of a large demonstration. Thankfully, with the body down I have now performed the preliminary autopsy.

Oh, and it also seems I have enough money for rent at the hotel for another night, maybe two.

One conundrum I have when levelling up is wondering whether I should invest the points in actual attributes or invest them in thoughts that you can research. I'm not sure which is more effective although I'm guessing attributes in general would be more powerful, surely?

Pillars of Eternity

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 3%

I've finally made my way to Gilded Vale. Found an elf that seems to have a dual personality and I've recruited him to the party after using my high Intelligence attribute to convince some locals not to pick a fight with him (I love games where having enough points in certain stats unlock different conversation options). Since I rescued the chef from the Black Hound Inn I apparently get discounts there which can't be a bad thing. I've sold a lot of my loot as I figure I won't need most of the armour and weapons I've picked up along the way and they'll only weigh me down.

Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 42%

I went through the monks' fortress and had to solve riddles involving gemstones in typical Christy Marx fashion. It took me a couple of goes (and I had to of course consult the manual) but got there in the end. I then spent time exploring the fortress and discovered King Richard's court jester in the dungeon. After freeing him, retrieving his scroll and also the scroll Maid Marian asked for, we escaped through a secret passage. So that day seemed to go to plan.

I'm on the next day now where apparently some friends of Robin's are scheduled to be executed and I guess I'll have to find a way of rescuing them. I've managed to acquire an Abbey Monk's disguise and also found a secret passage that leads to the cell Robin's friends are trapped in, but guards are still in the room meaning I have to find some way of getting rid of them. Also returning to the Abbot will result in him asking Robin Hood to share a drink with him but it looks like Robin can't hold his drink so I'll have to figure out how to get around that puzzle too.
