Lifting weights is considered all in a day's work for a detective

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Disco Elysium

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 28%

I'm running out of time to get 20 real in order to pay for my room but in the meantime I managed to convince the bookshop owner that I'm a paranormal detective in order to get rid of a curse she believes is plaguing the building her bookstore is in. I opened the back door and discovered a lot of remnants of failed businesses, even a failed MMORPG company that used radios to communicate with the game master which made me laugh. I eventually found a tenant hidden in the complex that manufactured dice for Role-Playing games. She unfortunately didn't have any useful information with respect to the case but hey at least I almost have enough money to pay off for the room and I even found an old rifle that might be worth something if I pawned it.

Pillars of Eternity

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 2%

The caravan was ambushed but I managed to escape through a cave only to come to a clearing to witness some weird ritual that has resulted in everyone dying except me. I am now hearing voices in my head which is not a good sign and I need to find this Gilded Vale as quickly as possible.

One cool thing about this game is how your biography seems to be a work in progress. For example, one of the NPCs asked about my profession and my motivations for travelling to Gilded Vale. The answers to these questions were eventually added to the Biography which I thought was a nice touch.

Unfortunately, with respect to the class though, I think I may have picked one that is too complicated to learn. This is usually the case with any magical class and I probably would've been better off rolling a fighter.

Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 25%

Made some more progress. Used a disguise twice in order to get into the town to talk to a friend of Maid Marian's and discovered that we'll need to ambush a shipment to York which contains a lot of gold: gold that can be used to pay King Richard's ransom. I also disguised myself as a monk (that are apparently Prince John's lackeys in reality) and I will now have to find a way to infiltrate their castle and steal some kind of scroll for Maid Marian. I also mapped Sherwood Forest east of Watling Street but not sure if it ended up being a waste of time. I seem to be progressing the story by simply watching Watling Street from the lookout and ambushing anyone along the way.

And man is Robin Hood horny. Almost everything he does involves getting a chance to sleep with Maid Marian. Is this the sort of man the Merry Men should be trusting with their lives?
