Wow this is mysterious and cool, perfect music for a spy movie don't you think? But what is the "fog of war"? The original term is of course, a military one, used to indicate the uncertainty in situational awareness. The term came into use during the 19th century and militaries nowadays use command and control (C2) systems and doctrine to partially alleviate the fog of war.
In computer games, especially Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games such as Universe at War, the fog of war is a pretty critical gameplay mechanic. In these games the fog of war refers to enemy units, structures and terrain that are hidden from the player but can be revealed temporarily if reconnaisance units are sent to explore the fog.
