"Unique skillset" hey? |
The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.
8-Bit Armies

I'm still plugging away at this. I finished one mission earlier this week where you're defending allied air fields from attacks, so now I get rocket choppers! Ooooooh! Still, I'm not entirely sold on the usefulness of choppers since they're still vulnerable to rocket soldiers, armoured cars and turrets, but we shall see.
The last mission I played this week actually started getting a bit more challenging as it was the volcano map meaning ground troops could easily get damaged by lava, so it's generally a good idea to use helicopters instead of infantry. In the end I just sent a huge force of choppers, tanks and cars to the enemy base and focused on destroying the HQ since that automatically ended the game. It's the first time I recall having to focus on the primary objective in order to beat the scenario instead of just wiping everything I see, so that's something.
XCOM: Chimera Squad
- Picked by Luke
- Percentage Complete = 11%
I completed my first Anarchy mission. It was tougher than normal since you go up against a LOT of enemies, scattered across three rooms and you have to stop them fleeing the scene. I somehow managed to get through it all though and now my next selection of missions are classified as merely "Difficult" instead of "Very Difficult" which is actually welcome news. I also now have field teams in every district meaning I have the ability to reduce City Anarchy every 5 turns. I am low on credits though which is what I need to work on earning somehow.
Quest for Glory II
- Picked by Choona
- Percentage Complete = 34%
I had to install a patch that was available at the SierraHelp Website in order to ensure that my wizard save file from Quest for Glory 1 actually imported properly so that I didn't turn out as a fighter again. Seems like it worked so thank you to the Sierra Help website for the file (and I just hope those guys never ever decide to take down their website)!
So, I'm finally playing as a wizard, as I should be, not a warrior with a wizard's spells! There's not much to say that has already been said in previous posts where I played a wizard. I just need to focus on getting back to where I had left off!
