Now that's what I call a traffic jam

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

8-Bit Armies

Same old. Same old. Just spamming units to defeat the enemy. It works! Not sure if I really should continue playing this or call it quits. The single player campaign is just a string of single player compstomps with no campaign videos or alternate routes or anything. It's really a step backwards from C&C.

XCOM: Chimera Squad

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 19%

I finished Act 1! I took down Gray Phoenix in a three-part mission which took a couple of attempts but I managed to get there in the end. You have to stop the enemies from launching a spaceship and if an enemy ends the round on the controls, it's game over. The first time I split my squad in two but the problem with this is that it spreads them too thin, not giving enough concentrated firepower to stop the enemies that were running towards the spaceship controls. The second time I attempted the mission I ensured the squad went in together which meant each of them could back each other up in terms of healing, shields and firepower. It was still a bit tricky and many risks were taken (my squad had to run out of cover in order to stop them) but it worked out in the end. I'm now checking out a new faction called The Progeny and I managed to hire a new recruit. I opted for the guy that apparently has psionic defensive capabilities which should prove useful against this new faction that relies on psychics.

Quest for Glory II

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 48%

I captured the air elemental. This time I actually casted Levitate to hover over the air elemental in order to throw some dirt down the funnel. It took a lot of waiting around before the air elemental was near enough for me to throw some dirt down but I eventually made it. I also managed to kill a Terrorsaurus and they're a bit trickier than your usual foes. The only problem with them though is that they don’t drop any loot, so the only reward you get is levelling your stats. I really should try taking on a ghoul some time. Oh, I'm also up to the part where I have to retrieve ingredients for a dispel potion.
