The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Beneath a Steel Sky

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 66%

To commemorate the release of Beyond a Steel Sky on Steam this week, I decided to give its predecessor Beneath a Steel Sky a go. The game is available for free off GOG.com and this is the version of the game that I'm playing. I actually purchased a copy of Beyond a Steel Sky off Steam as I managed to get a 30% discount (20% for a launch discount and 10% for owning a copy of Broken Sword 5). I did play Beneath a Steel Sky quite a while back but never actually finished the game, so I thought this was as good a time as any to rectify the matter.

I'm definitely feeling a lot of nostalgia playing this game, and that's usually the case with a lot of 1990s point 'n' click adventures. I'm enjoying the fact it has an interesting premise, the fact I haven't encountered any dead ends so far, the rather logical puzzles and your wise-cracking robot sidekick, Joey.

The game is also set in Australia, which is pretty awesome except for the fact I haven't really come across anyone with a proper Aussie accent and please, we don't drink Foster's here in Australia, unless the dystopian future that Beneath a Steel Sky is set in, really is dystopian! The audio and visuals are quite dated as you'd expect from a 1990's point 'n' click adventure and there are a couple of other annoyances, such as waiting for Joey to travel between screens and the fact you have to do a lot of backtracking, but otherwise, it's not a bad game so far.

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 56%

All of this week was spent completing Beneath a Steel Sky so I didn't get a chance to play Fallout 4.

Quest for Glory II

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 0%

I didn't play any Quest for Glory II this week but will give it a go soon.
