I love it how the incorporate computing parlance into everyday phrases in Primordia

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Primordia

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 100%

That's another game off the Pile of Shame! Although it does mean I had no time to play any Fallout 4 or Quest for Glory II.

The game has a compelling narrative, a likeable protagonist (who doesn't love a robot who loves Humanity?) and plenty of plot twists which is probably why I couldn't stop playing this game: I just wished I tried this game out sooner (considering it's 8 years old now)! What is also interesting about this game is some of the puzzles have alternate solutions: usually there's a "good" solution and a "bad" one (e.g. in one puzzle you can help recover an item for another robot but it's defective. You can solve the puzzle by giving them the item as-is or go the extra mile and fix the item before returning it. Both methods will result in success but only one of them makes you feel like a jerk).

The game also offers multiple endings. The first time I played I got one of the bad endings (which results in your character dying an honourable death) but it doesn't take too much messing around to trigger one of the better endings. I'm quite impressed at how there are multiple endings and branching narratives in this game since you don't see this all the time in oldschool point 'n' click adventure games.

So, now with Primordia out of the way, I think I'll actually try Beneath a Steel Sky, in honour of its sequel, Beyond a Steel Sky being released next week!

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 56%

All of this week was spent completing Primordia so I didn't get a chance to play Fallout 4.

Quest for Glory II

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 0%

I didn't play any Quest for Glory II this week but will give it a go soon.
