Lithariel is a damsel-in-distress in the penultimate mission in Shadow of Mordor

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 60%
I finished two missions where I had to assist Lithariel. The first one involved grabbing a cure for her mother (after she was possessed by Saruman) and the second turned out to be your typical damsel-in-distress mission after she is captured by the Orcs. At the end of the mission she asks Talion to stay and join their cause, but he refuses, knowing he doesn't belong in the world of the living.

I must be very close to the end of the game now as there is only one main mission left which involves branding a whole bunch of War Chiefs so their armies can fight against Sauron.

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 43%
Preston Garvey got me helping the Minutemen… AGAIN! Although this time, it wasn't helping settlements but meeting up with an old Minuteman called Ronnie. She gives a mission where you have to find a way to enter the Minutemen's Armoury at the Castle. Unfortunately, there is a huge metal door blocking the way with no clear method of opening it. Excavating a tunnel in the former General's quarters reveals an underground passage which leads to the Armoury but this eventually results in an encounter with a very large and fearsome robot called SARGE. Originally, SARGE used to protect the Minutemen but of course, due to some corrupted programming, he turns against us and it's one hell of a fight. Thankfully, I was wearing Power Armour at the time.

After defeating SARGE, the way was clear to the Armoury which contained schematics to build artillery! So now if I'm ever near Minutemen settlements with artillery built, I can call in artillery strikes to help me out provided I'm close by. Neat!

The Colonel's Bequest

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 75%
Making progress with the walkthrough although sometimes it tells me to do things that seem impossible (e.g. I'm meant to "smell air" a few times and it doesn't actually allow me to do so. I hope this doesn't become a problem later in the game). The game also has a gratuitous scene where it shows Fifi getting changed behind French doors (of course) and into a cocktail dress (I guess to titillate the young male demographic?) Anyway, lots of people are dead now, even the butler! So, I wonder who is the real murderer? I get the feeling that the colonel himself is behind all of this considering he enjoys playing games on people.
