What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

Things are definitely getting interesting in The Colonel's Bequest

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 47%
I finally managed to draw out another of the Warchiefs and killing him was actually quite easy (he wasn't invulnerable to stealth kills). After that, I had to re-enact what seemed to be a main mission reminiscent of the Payload maps in Team Fortress 2 where I had to push a little (explosive) cart towards a giant statue of Sauron. Destroying the statue apparently gives the Outcasts hope in one day being free of Mordor and Sauron's forces.

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 38%
I helped the Minutemen take back their castle (which appears to be the site of Fort Independence in Boston)! I had to fight against a lot of Mirelurks to secure it including a Queen Mirelurk that took quite a few hits to kill (I used up all my Molotov Cocktails on it)! Now, in order to get the radio tower up and running I need to provide 10 power to it but apparently building a bunch of small and medium generators to power the thing isn't enough: I'm hoping that the points I received from levelling up which were placed in the Science! perk weren't wasted (you need the Science! perk in order to unlock the ability to build large power generators which can generate 10 power each).

Unfortunately, I'm missing aluminium and nuclear material in order to complete the large generator which means it's a bit of an anti-climax since after defeating the big bad, I am unable to complete the quest, just because I can't build the generator required to power the radio transmitter. DO NOT WANT.

The Colonel’s Bequest

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 40%
The plot thickens!

A couple of guests have now been murdered and I've been picking up any evidence I find but I'm not really sure what else I can do. I've been talking to some guests and even told them of the deaths but in the case of the first one (Gertie) her body disappeared soon after, making Laura (the player character) look like a liar. I haven't died yet but since this is a Sierra adventure, I get the feeling I'm heading for a dead-end.... maybe even literally, since this is a murder mystery game after all!
