Roger Wilco visits... Sierra On-Line?

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

I FINALLY FINISHED IT!

I love a good epilogue and Wasteland 2 seems to deliver the goods (just like the old Fallout used to). However, I did notice that some of the descriptions seemed contradictory (e.g. it says I saved Arizona thanks to saving Ag Center but since Highpool's water supply was destroyed, everybody is starving? Doesn't make much sense, right?). Also, it seems that things aren't as great as I had left it with only a few communities really benefiting from what I did. Oh well.

I also like the track that plays at the end of the game. Pretty cool.

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 24%
Wow. It took me a bit longer than I expected to finish the last quest I completed, but I got there in the end. It turns out that I needed to have Advanced Hacking skills in order to rescue a hostage but since I didn't have the required skill level, I needed another way in. Thankfully, there was another way but it involved killing the raider leader in order to get the password, so the quest would've been much easier if I was able to hack the terminal (since it was very close to the entrance)! I even came up against a "Legendary" Raider and had to restore the game due to my first encounter not ending the way I had hoped. Thankfully, my newly acquired Tommy Gun made short work of him next time.

I also like how certain quests you perform have a lasting effect on the wasteland. For example, since helping Diamond City Radio host Travis become more confident, he's actually sounding more confident on the airwaves as a result!

Space Quest III

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 100%
Hey I actually remembered what to do! Space Quest III is probably going to end up being another game I'd recommend to those who really want to try an old Sierra adventure but don't want to try one on the masochistic end of the spectrum… It also helps that the game doesn't take itself too seriously (even by Sierra standards).

Anyway, time for a review and time for me to start with one of my favourite Sierra adventures of all time: Quest for Glory 1!
