What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 61%
Wow. I have a hard slog ahead of me. After killing a lot of animals to make my way up to the remains of Griffith Observatory (where God's Militia is based) I got involved in their internal politics. The leader managed to convince me to kill the leaders of two of the factions (basically the Secret Police and the Military) and then blamed the Rangers for attempting to initiate internal conflict and destroy God's Militia from within (which isn't such a bad plan to be honest). Anyway, everyone in the leadership is now dead, but that also means in order to get out of this place alive, I'll probably be fighting almost everyone as I make my way out.

Also, killing gun vendors apparently unlocks their entire inventory! So now I have my troops all encumbered with lots of guns, ammunition and junk as a result.

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 18%
I've started to perform quests that are more suited for my level so clearing out a super market of ghouls seemed a bit more manageable than taking on Super Mutants (although the Protectotron I activated really helped against the boss ghoul). I've levelled up and placed points in the "Strong Back" perk so I can finally carry more crap around now!

I also finally decided to pursue the main quest and made my way to Diamond City which is of course set around the official home of the Red Sox: Fenway Park - apparently the baseball park is big enough to have a full-blown settlement in it and so I'm starting to talk to the people of the town to see what's going on.

Police Quest II: The Vengeance

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 100%
Well, I finally finished the game. With a walkthrough it took me about 3-4 hours to complete it. As usual, there are quite a few ways to stuff up and despite having a walkthrough I still only got 277 points out of a possible 300!

Most of the end-game makes sense in terms of the puzzles although it's easy to miss out on details, such as the entrance to the sewers and why on Earth Bains even managed to safely hide in the sewers.
The game also takes a turn for the unbelievable at the end as Sonny Bonds becomes an action hero, shooting down terrorists and actually managing to defuse a bomb while on a plane!

Anyway, since I've finished Police Quest II I can now move on to another SCI adventure... maybe Space Quest III?
