What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

Apparently Duran Duran survived the apocalypse

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 59%
I finally figured out how to get to Los Feliz and Griffith Park and it's a worthy /facepalm moment: while reading a forum post on that very subject, I discovered that it was simply a matter of teleporting there from within Los Angeles (however once you've travelled there, it actually unlocks the location on the World Map… ARGH!). Along the way, I managed to upgrade Rose's pistol to a Colt .45 (apparently, it's better than a Desert Eagle, go figure)! I'm just about to try the Gauntlet.

Also, the funniest random encounter I've experienced in the game so far has to be meeting up with 80s boy band Duran Duran! I used to listen to these guys heaps as a kid (I was aware of their 80s stuff but I really got into their stuff in the 90s). I'm guessing someone at inXile Entertainment is a fan?

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 16%
I've completed a few quests for the Brotherhood of Steel and while doing so, stumbled across a Radiant Quest called "Quartermastery". So blatant is its attempt to recycle previous goals that it gave me the exact same location to retrieve an item I had gone to previously – now that's what I call the definition of a "fetch quest".

So, I decided to continue on with the Lost Patrol Brotherhood of Steel quest instead, however, in doing so, I stumbled across Super Mutants again… even trying to use Power Armour and a minigun seems to have little effect against these guys (so my normal setup is probably not too bad in that case). Since a couple of enemies had skulls against their labels, I'm guessing this quest is probably a bit too hard for me at the moment, so I should probably reload and try another one. Just as well computer games give you the ability to restore, hey?

Police Quest II: The Vengeance

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 44%
Haven't made any further progress with Police Quest II this week as I spent quite a bit of time playing Fallout 4.
