What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

Man, this Donald Trump chap gets around

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 57%
I cleared out some of the scum inhabiting Hollywood by breaking up a slaver ring and also taking down a crooked restaurant owner who was in on the whole deal. When Heidi's 2IC, Mistress Veronica, told me to show her evidence that slavery was occurring within her city, she seemed to pay it lip service and said it would be duly investigated by the police. Heidi also wanted me to report on Mistress Veronica's love life since she reckons a prostitute in a relationship is not much of a prostitute. I did find out that Veronica does have a lover and she wants us to find out what has happened to him: he's apparently either in Los Feliz or at the Bastion of Faith (a place crawling with God's Militia – how much you want to bet he ends up being there? :P). I haven't found either of these places on the map yet, so maybe I need to keep exploring? I'm guessing they'll be somewhere to the east.

Also, I'm withholding Veronica's relationship information for the time being as I don't think Heidi is entirely reputable and she could be doing more harm to Hollywood than good.

Fallout 4

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 14%
I never realised this but a lot of these quests I'm doing for Preston Garvey (i.e. assisting settlements across the Commonwealth) are part of a system developed by Bethesda known as "Radiant Quests". Radiant Quests are apparently quests that will be offered forever but their purpose is to help encourage you find new settlements across the map. Anyway, after learning this, I'm guessing once I've covered a decent amount of the map, I'll stop doing these Radiant Quests since they're just distractions from the main storyline.

I also managed to clear a place of Ghouls but I encountered a really mean one called "The Glowing One!" Man, it was a tough battle even with the best weapon I was carrying (which happened to be an Institute Laser Rifle): it took so many hits to kill. I also had to use a whole bunch of meds to give me a fighting chance. Now that the place is clear though, they won't be bothering the nearby village any time soon, which means another settlement has sworn allegiance to the Minutemen (yay?).

Police Quest II: The Vengeance

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 44%
I finished the first (very busy) day as Sonny Bonds in Police Quest II. You really need to explore the airport thoroughly in order to pick up on clues and progress the investigation. You also need to think of doing random things, like searching toilets for handguns (having watched lots of gangster movies would definitely help in this regard): this is because Luis Pate's revolver ends up being in one of them. There's also a whole area of the airport you can miss if you don't explore every edge of the screen, so it pays to check out if any areas that have a corner you can slip around.

Other highlights in the last playthrough involve getting run over by a car if you don't press the crossing light button (oh Jim Walls, you're such a stickler for the rules) as well as Larry Laffer and Donald Trump cameos (I wonder what Jim Walls thinks of Trump nowadays).
