What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

I can't believe there was $200 that I missed.

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 46%
I may have to reload my game.

It seems I have inadvertently made the Mannerites angry by getting to their control centre through the sewers (I mean, seriously, they obviously don't have very good security measures if it's that simple to get in). After popping my head up in the room, the technician called the guards and after killing them all in self-defense, my squad are now wanted criminals. Anyway, I did manage to put a receiver while I was there which boosted the range of the Rangers Broadcast, so at least some good came out of it. I still need to do a couple of things at the Mannerite base which includes finding a microscope as well as informing their leader that the settlement of Rodia is open for trade. While I can possible manage the first one (i.e. by stealing a microscope) I don't think the latter is possible anymore.

Homefront: The Revolution

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 73%
I finally increased the "Hearts & Minds" of the Restricted Zone to 100% which means I've finally reached the goal! Now I need to bust a guy outta prison. It actually took me longer than I expected since I ran out of things to sabotage and radios to turn on: the only way left was waiting to see if there were any opportunities (e.g. freeing prisoners which I still don't know how to do) or destroying armoured cars.

Gold Rush! Classic

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 19%
I've restarted the game and am currently at 47 out of 250 points (hence why my "Percentage Complete" figure has dropped to 19%). It seems there were quite a few things I missed when compared to my first couple of playthroughs. For example, you actually have $200 in your bank account that you're able to withdraw, provided you find the account number off your bank statement. And where is this bank statement you might ask? Well, when you visit your house there's an open roll-up desk. Looking at the desk doesn't hint at anything you're able to retrieve. However, if you close the desk, you'll find the bank statement stuck to the roller door! ARGH! Good ol' Sierra adventures, always hiding critical items in the least likely of places.

You're also able to retrieve gold quite early in the game as you can find a gold coin under the gazebo in the park as well as some gold hidden underneath the adhesive stamp that is stuck to your brother's letter!
