What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

Time Splitters 2? Wha?

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 45%
I've made quite a bit of progress in helping the folks in Los Angeles, although my opponents are definitely more challenging now. I'm coming across groups of cyborgs now and they're no joke: I often end up with one or two of my squad members bleeding out as a result. They seem to do a lot of damage and I just can't reciprocate it, at least not yet. Once again, I'm glad I picked easiest difficulty when I first started playing this. Anyway, I will have to see if I can find any better armour at some point but I've already made attempts at improving my arsenal: Rose now has a .45 Peacekeeper, the Doc has an AUG and Angela (my thief) has a Rebar staff, although despite it doing heaps more melee damage, it only has a 25% chance to hit… although that might have something to do with the fact that melee weapons are classified as either blunt weapons or bladed weapons (and she only has skills in bladed weapons, D'oh!).

So far, I've helped a farmer save her cows and also helped liberate a town called Rodia (it's based off an area of LA where the Watts Towers stand – you learn something new every day in Wasteland 2, especially when it comes to American geography).

I'm currently at a place called "Angel Oracle" but it's actually the ruins of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It's run by a faction called the Mannerites who are, as the name implies, very particular about manners.

Homefront: The Revolution

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 68%
Wha? A game within a game? Seems like you can play the classic console game (that my wife used to play) called Timesplitters 2 if you happen to interact with an arcade machine in the Restricted Zone. Neat.

Also the "prison" isn't really a prison but it's actually just a cordoned off area with a heavy KPA presence although there are solitary confinement cells called "iso boxes" (I wonder if they're ISO 9000 compliant? Hyuk hyuk. Okay, I'll see myself out…)

Anyway, I have freed three prisoners at the request of this guy called Small. Now I just need to get the Hearts and Minds of the zone to 100% before raiding a Maximum Security Prison where a guy called Mickey Two Shoes is held; he apparently knows the tunnels underneath Philly like the back of his hand.

Gold Rush! Classic

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 36%
Since I spent so much time playing Wasteland 2 this week, I gave Gold Rush! a pass. Once I get time to play it though, I suspect it will be quick since I intend to use a walkthrough.
