Kenway, trying to change course?

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 12%
I'm starting to notice NPC portraits being recycled now so they definitely could've spent more time in creating more portraits in the game. I've also noticed that there are still issues with my followers mentioning things too late (i.e. warning me about a location after I've already visited it).

I observed one of my followers going rogue and dispensing their own form of "frontier justice" on some poor sod… and you don't get a say in the matter! This means you have to be very careful who you bring along in your squad because sometimes, they'll make decisions for you!

I'm currently fighting a lot of "Rail Thieves" but I'm recovering a lot of neat loot as a result: I've now recovered a couple of M4 Carbines which I've put to good use (in replacing an M14 and M1 Garand). I've also acquired a Russian "Karabiner" to replace my sniper's existing rifle… I'm guessing the "Karabiner" is meant to be an SKS.

I also had a funny encounter during combat with a giant toad… those things can actually steal cleavers from your Rangers' hands! I lol'd.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 93%
I noticed a couple of graphical glitches (e.g. the Jackdaw appearing out of the depths a bit like the Flying Dutchman in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies) as well as the shading being a bit off during some cutscenes: it didn't help with the immersion but I guess you can't blame a game that's 6 years old, right?

Edward Kenway has hit a rough patch in the storyline as everyone he's ever cared about has either left him or are dead. After escaping from the prison, seeing Mary die and Ade, his once loyal 2IC, leaving for the Assassins, it prompted Kenway to do some soul searching. Eventually, he tries to make amends for what he did in the past (in terms of screwing over the Assassins) and I'm now at a part of the game where Anne has joined your crew. The goal now is to get revenge on Torres, Rogers and Roberts, so I'm guessing that I've almost finished the game.

Space Quest I

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 52%
I haven't played Space Quest this week but tempted to use a walkthrough for the rest of my playthrough considering I've already wasted time twice without using one. I'll give it one last chance and then after three strikes, it's walkthrough all the way.
