What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

Guess I still have to work on my landings

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

For Honor

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 10%
Didn't get around to playing this.

Stardew Valley

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 20%
On hold while I'm playing other games. 😊

Battlefield V

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 100%
Okay, I played one game and this guy was using a Lewis Gun to consistently headshot people in the spawn from halfway across the map; he/she also managed to get a KDR of 72-6. Smells of hacking but I can't really be sure in this game, maybe the guy just found an exploit since the game is still pretty buggy, even after the Tides of War update.

Speaking of Tides of War update, the Practice Range has now been included into the game as well as "The Last Tiger" War Story (which I haven't tried yet). I have been working towards accomplishing tasks that unlock new skins and even weapons as part of the Tides of War event; so now I have an allied medium machine gun called the VGO as well as a couple of paint jobs for my vehicles. It's pretty neat and a good way to entice players to keep on playing.

Urban Empire

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 65%
I'm now in the middle of Era IV and the mayor is a female computer scientist in the 1970s! I've slowly started to turn some of the districts from low density to medium density and have also tried to enable grids (i.e. gas, electricity, telephone, etc.) as well as improving roads, but the districts still refuse to develop, which ultimately results in the districts losing me money. What gives? How on Earth do you develop districts in this game? Unfortunately, the game itself doesn't really provide much guidance; it seems to teach you the basics and nothing more.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 54%
So, it's become pretty obvious that the Assassins are still active in the present day and wanting to undermine Abstergo who is run by the Templars. Back in the Golden Age of Piracy, Blackbeard has apparently retired after I managed to complete a really annoying mission that required impeccable timing and stealth, as well as some wrestling of alligators (I'm not even joking). I only made it through this one thanks to the checkpoints having less enemies to worry about – so the key was just trying my best to get to the next checkpoint and then it didn't matter if I died during the next sequence: my progress was saved and there would be less of a challenge. It's scummy, but as mentioned, I really suck at stealth or farming upgrades, and I really want to finish this game.

Sid Meier's Pirates!

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 81%
Well I'm now 37 years old in Sid Meier's Pirates! and I'm apparently in "poor health" – sheesh, way to make me feel old in real life (thanks to me being of a similar age). Anyway, I found all the Lost Cities! So, um, not much else to do now except accumulate wealth and improve my ranks. I'm already a Duke in the Dutch Empire so just need to do the same for the other powers.
