What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

Got to love a Monty Python reference

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Quake II: Quad Damage

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 50%
Yay! I unlocked the RAILGUN. Awwww yeah, the nostalgia of using that thing in Q2DM (and Quake III Arena for that matter). Not much else to say besides the fact I'm up to Unit 6 – Power Plant, sooooooo I'm half-way there. WhoooOOOA! The Strogg are going to pay, yeah!

For Honor

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 10%
Didn't play For Honor this week – had no friends to play with and wasn't keen on trying it by myself ☹.

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 92%
I'm now only days away (in-game days away, that is) from the end and thankfully I think I've done enough to get me that Rogue of the Year award (at least I definitely hope so). It seems like I missed out on a whole lot of the storyline in my first playthrough – in fact, it's quite amazing how you've got the choice to. I managed to deal with a drat infestation that occurs late in the game but I'm not entirely sure if I resolved it in the best possible manner (if anyone remembers the Rachni Queen in Mass Effect, you'll know what I mean). I also dislike how you don't get a chance to switch out your equipment before performing a certain safe unlocking test late in the game. The reason this is an issue is because I'm wearing a set of Panda armour (yes, there's Panda armour in the game) and the gloves look like oven mitts. The gloves provide good protection but as you can imagine, they're not too good when dexterity is required which is why your "Tool Use" points drop dramatically whenever you wear them (and your "Tool Use" points are used to determine how successful you are when picking locks or cracking safes). Thankfully, I've been saving often so I was able to restore not long before that event occurred and switch my armour out.

I also noticed some visual artifacts while crossing a puzzle room, especially when it involved pizza. Mmmmm pizza (one of the crucial ingredients in scientific formulae according to Doctor Cranium).

Stardew Valley

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 20%
On hold while I'm playing other games. 😊

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 25%
I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by… well… a lot of other games 😊.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 60%
Well, I'm currently stuck on a mission where you have to rescue crew members in a stealthy manner (since if you don't they'll get executed – too many executions and it's restart mission time). Of course, I'm terrible at stealth missions so this is a bit of an issue. My last attempt I almost completed the mission but then all of a sudden, the controls froze for my character and I couldn't do anything. There were still other NPCs running in the background but nothing else was working. Damnit! That close!

Nothing

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 100%
Choona is still deciding what I should tackle next on my Pile of Shame.
