Time to enjoy some rum! Yaaaaarrr!!

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Hand of Fate

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 92%
I've failed the last level three more times now, even after dropping the difficulty down to Apprentice (although it didn't help I had some really terrible curses on that run – just goes to show with the amount of RNGesus there is, playing on easiest difficulty isn't going to help much). I think I've just about had enough with the game. There's definitely a huge difficulty spike right at the end.

So, maybe I should get back to clearing this list of other games. Maybe Battlefield 1 considering the sequel is coming out soon? Yeah, probably pointless to a degree but at least I'll have finally got the single player campaign out of the way.

Stardew Valley

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 20%
On hold while I'm playing other games. 😊

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 25%
I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by… well… a lot of other games 😊.

Battlefield 1

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 10%
I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by… well… a lot of other games 😊.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 26%
Wow I suck at ship combat. I had to sink some brigs in order to steal some metal but I always ended up attracting way too much attention and eventually getting overwhelmed. I've now upgraded the cannons and progressed to the next mission which apparently involves robbing a sugar plantation.

What's most exciting though is that I have unlocked the sea shanty "Drunken Sailor" (probably the only sea shanty I actually know). I'm hoping I get to hear it next time I'm sailing around the Caribbean 😊.

Hacknet

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 77%
I managed to get stuck again on Hacknet and required a hint – it turns out since I wasn't aware of how a certain tool worked, namely the MemDumpGenerator.exe file, I thought I was stuck when I approached a computer with seemingly no data on it. What I was meant to do was run this MemDumpGenerator.exe tool to see what was deleted off the computer.

Also, this game gets top marks for immersion: recently I was the victim of an attack in-game and eventually the game closes and opens up your actual command prompt, you know, good ol' cmd.exe on your actual Windows machine. You're tasked to navigate the folders on your PC and delete a fake dll file planted there all the while following instructions in a text file generated by a character in the game. I like it.
