Gotta love some "sweaty rage"

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Hand of Fate

I've defeated 10 out of 12 bosses now in the Story Mode so I'm guessing that means I'm 83% of the way through the campaign, right? Unless there's a twist and at the end of the 12 I have to fight another 12 or something like that. The game has an "Endless Mode" too but I'm unlikely to give that too much thought (I might play it at least once though just to know what it's all about). You can also change the rules/difficulty of the game in order to make things either easier or harder on yourself.

Still enjoying this game and glad I backed it on Kickstarter. Aussie devs are really talented and this game is proof of it. The only thing I found annoying at one stage is when the framerate dropped really low for one particular boss level but it was gone after a few seconds (thankfully).

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 40%
I've finished Episode 2 and wow, there's a huge plot twist at the end of the second episode which is probably going to make your life even worse than it already is (and I thought that would've been impossible seeing how the first two episodes panned out for Javi). I really like what they've done in this third season of The Walking Dead since the plot twists (which they seem to employ frequently in recent Telltale adventures) keeps things interesting.

You also encounter a character nicknamed "Jesus" who is apparently a character in the TV series... I only found that out by accident too since the real reason I was reading up about the character was to find out who the voice actor was; after hearing Jesus for the first time in-game I thought to myself, "hmmmm that guy sounds a lot like Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect" – sure enough, the voice actor for Jesus is noneother than Brandon freakin' Keener.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 25%
I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by Telltale adventures 😊.

Battlefield 1

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 10%

XCOM 2

Getting flawless mission after flawless mission, so Rookie difficulty has definitely made it easier so far. I’ve even managed to build a Guerilla Training Facility so now I can have five operatives on a mission instead of one and you can train rookies to become Squaddies (so it’s even better than I thought). I’ve only just unlocked a new region which seems to have triggered the Avatar project and there are times where if you don't invest the effort into recovering supplies, personnel, etc. you can miss out. Consequently, even on Rookie difficulty, it's impossible to be able to do everything and you’re bound to make some sacrifices – which is good I suppose.

Also, gotta love the operation names they have in this game...I just completed one called "Sweaty Rage".

????

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 0%
Choona has not picked a new game off my Pile of Shame for me to play this week – so I guess I had a bit of a break of sorts. Hopefully he'll have something for me next week!
