Judging by the expression on this guy's face, he could only be a Collectible Card Game addict |
The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Prior to playing
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, my own choice for Pile of Shame game was to be
Hand of Fate which I've managed to make good progress with. It's a fun game to play and generally pretty quick too (15-30 minutes per game). The game is a roguelike too so you never really feel like you're wasting your time (provided you're earning tokens from cards 😊).
Oh, there is another reason I'm playing this game:
Hand of Fate 2 has already been released! Pretty much a wake-up call that I should hurry up and review the predecessor that I backed on Kickstarter many years ago 😉.

Yes, I got suckered in to playing yet
another Telltale game on my backlog, although this might be the last for a while. I'm playing the third season of
The Walking Dead and surprise, surprise, it's pretty grim! Although it's great that you meet Clementine again (although in this game, she doesn't seem to be a player character). She's by no means perfect though and despite her badass attitude, she might be more trouble than she's worth… This game seems to focus on a family of Latin Americans (judging by the character names and the fact they spontaneously speak fluent Spanish every so often – gotta love the term "muertos" for walkers) which I think is a good thing; it definitely reinvigorates the formula.
I did notice a couple of black line artifacts while playing the game which I'm a bit disappointed about but the framerate seems to be rather stable which is pretty good... for a Telltale adventure.
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by Telltale adventures 😊.
Battlefield 1

XCOM 2

I'm doing much better this time; I don't know if it's because it's on Rookie difficulty or it's just the luxury of hindsight (or a combination of both) but so far, I've been getting flawless and excellent ratings in missions and they've all been easy (but knowing my luck, I've probably just jinxed myself). I'm now focusing on a Guerrilla Training School as early as possible this time so I can get that extra 5th member for my squad.
War Thunder

Well I haven't
really finished
War Thunder but
"technically" I have and by "technically" I mean I've played the requisite 10 hours I've allotted to the game prior to writing a review. You see, since the game is Free-to-Play and it'll take a long time to grind every single plane and tank, it's not going to be realistic to provide a review when (if) that occurs (since the game's servers will probably be retired by that time 😊). Anyway, I played a few more rounds of Air Arcade Battles this weekend along with one Tank Arcade Battle. I somehow did very poorly as a bomber so either I just don't have what it takes or I'm doing something wrong. I also tried one of these events that give you a chest (it's some PvE challenge called "Assault" I believe) although it ended very badly, and I'm not quite sure why... but that's just
War Thunder for you (or probably every MMO in existence).
Anyway, expect a
War Thunder review in the review pipeline 😊
