What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

I finally got stuck in this game and it was here on Crete - but I figured it out... eventually...

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and Lanna. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Minecraft: Story Mode

  • Picked by Lanna
  • Percentage Complete = 80%
I've started on episode 7 and the story is actually quite intriguing as you find a world that is run by a giant computer/AI. You also manage to bump into one of the so-called "Old Builders" too who has purposefully destroyed the exit portal for her world because she didn't want the unshackled AI to spread to other dimensions.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

  • Picked by Lanna
  • Percentage Complete = 25%
I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by Telltale adventures 😊.

Battlefield 1

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 44%
I've made good progress in Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis even though I got stuck on an archaeological dig site at Crete for around 45 minutes! I knew what I had to do (use a surveyor's transit to determine where to find another stone disk) but I didn't know where exactly to click in order to make it happen; I also wasn't sure if I was on the right track or not since if you click randomly on objects while using the transit, Indy just says things like "I see dirt", "I see a door", "I see a wall" or "I see Sophia", ad infinitum. Turns out I was on the right track and after clicking the right spots I found the Moonstone which granted me access to what seems to be the same Labyrinth that held the Minotaur in Greek Myth.

Peggle

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 100%
Yay I've finally finished Peggle! Well, at least the Adventure Mode – there's also a Challenge Mode and a Duel mode (hotseat multiplayer) if you want to make the most out of the game but I think I've experienced enough to finally get a review out. The last stage was actually pretty good as you get a choice of which master to use (and certain masters are better suited to particular levels).

Also, another random (but awesome) thing I found about the game just then: there are eight buttons on the main menu and they correspond to all the notes in an octave i.e. low C, D, E, F, G, A, B, high C. So, if you ever wanted to play Sound of Music's "Do Re Mi", you can with the Peggle main menu screen (or you could be like most normal people and use a keyboard or piano instead).

I'm waiting for Choona to assign a new game for me but he's still deciding. If one isn't picked by next Sunday I guess that means I'll be down to two Pile of Shame games a week instead of one!
