Choicest VGM - VGM #258 - Sid Meier's Civilization - Aztec Theme

Original soundtrack composed by: Jeffery L. Briggs

We now feature our first track from the game that is used as a leader/civilization theme. We start off with the Aztec theme or Montezuma's theme which is actually a pretty special one as it's featured not only in the original Civilization but in Civilization II as well (again as a theme for the Aztecs and a variation of it is used as the Civ II intro music). The music is also featured in Sid Meier's Colonization when you meet, yep you guessed it, the Aztecs. The Civ 1 version of theme is pretty basic and the theme is only embellished in later games, but it's still one of the most memorable pieces of music from the game.

The music was recorded through DOSBOX and consequently this is DOSBOX's emulation of OPL3 I believe, the FM synthesis sound chip used in a lot of old Soundblaster cards.
