Documentary about Game Audio History to be released in September

Beep is available on DVD for $15.24 USD

So just the other day, who responds to one of my Where are they now? posts? None other than Rudy Helm, the chap who composed the soundtrack for Quest for Glory III during a short stint at Sierra. Rudy's apparently "refurbishing" an old soundtrack he worked on for a 1990s fighting game for Accolade called Cybernauts; it never was released unfortunately, but the music that Rudy is working on will be released next year under Piko Interactive.

But what has Rudy been working on before that? Well, apparently him and a whole bunch of game audio professionals (i.e. video game composers, sound designers, voice actors, chiptune musicians, etc.) have contributed their time to a documentary on called "Beep: A Documentary History of Game Sound". Already the documentary has been doing the rounds and it's won several awards at film festivals. On the 30 September though, you'll be able to get your hands on the documentary video (in either digital format or on DVD for $15.24 USD) or you can get "The Beep Book" which contains 410,000 words of interview transcripts with over 100 game audio professionals such as Marty O'Donnell (Halo), George "The Fat Man" Sanger (Wing Commander, 7th Guest, Maniac Mansion), Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and, of course, Rudy Helm (Quest for Glory III). Not sure if Frank Klepacki or Jeremy Soule are in the mix (two of my favourite composers) but there's already a lot of talent listed in this documentary already.

If you're not the sort into purchasing stuff there are already some free "webisodes" you can watch on the Vimeo channel. They've already got ones for Clint Bajakian and Michael Z. Land (Monkey Island, Star Wars, Uncharted), as well as the guys I've mentioned before (Rudy Helm is coming soon!).

For the videos that haven't been sponsored yet, they haven't been uploaded to Vimeo although I'm very tempted to take the plunge considering choice composers like John Broomhall hasn't had his interview uploaded yet...
