This is a remix of the music which plays whenever you meet the race known as the Shofixti in Star Control II/The Ur-Quan Masters. I've always had a soft spot for the Shofixti and obviously the Yehat did as well for they are the race responsible for "uplifting" the Shofixti to a spacefaring race. The Yehat respected the fact that, like them, the Shofixti places a very high value on honour; they're basically a race of samurai that somehow look a lot like Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy (although technically they're meant to be similar to marsupials - so maybe Drop Bears?).
Anyway, this explains why the theme for the Shofixti has what sounds like a Japanese flute in it - the scratching and hip hop on the other hand, I cannot explain but it's pretty damn impressive, especially considering when this game originally came out (1992). George E. Nowik's take on this classic by Dan Nicholson is a subtle one without too many changes being made, but why would you when the original was so good?
Special thanks to The Precursors for remixing the classic Star Control II tracks and making them available for download.
