Can't figure out how to import your Mass Effect 2 (ME2) savegame into Mass Effect 3 (ME3)? Well don't worry, EA actually has an article on how to do it - it would've been nice if they just told us in the manual somewhere but unfortunately they don't which meant I spent a bit of time figuring out how to do it (Note: Copying the ME2 saves to the ME3 saves folder doesn't work).
Anyway, the way to do it is so:
1. If you already have ME2 installed, you don't need to do anything, it looks for the games automatically in your ME2 save directory.
2. If you don't already have ME2 installed (like me), you need to create a folder at this location:
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect 2 > Save > [save files]
with your saves. Then you're all set :).
I think that when you uninstall Mass Effect 2, it gives you the option to retain your savegames, so they'll still be in the My Docs folder, which is useful.

Cheers Jeff. Yeah I think in my case the last time I played ME2 it was on a different computer! So yeah the file structure plus old save games weren't there. Have you been playing ME3?

ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't work for you, please check the link in the post to EA's support page for this issue. I pretty much paraphrased that and applied it to my situation (i.e. I didn't have Mass Effect 2 installed).
So my save games are in:
C:\Users\Mark\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\Save
In the save folders are folders for the character save games, e.g.
Mark_12_Engineer_290110
Adam_11_Sentintel_260410
Jane_12_Vanguard_120410
etc.
