A recent Gamespy article mentions that Eidos Montreal has officially announced that they are resurrecting another classic series of PC games: the Thief series. Fans of this Looking Glass Studios gem will be rejoicing, or perhaps not since the question on their minds may be "Will Eidos stuff up the series with this fourth iteration?"
With Deus Ex 3 and Thief 4 in the pipeline, Eidos Montreal have got a lot of big expectations to satisfy and it's not going to be an easy task!

Rock Paper Shotgun has an interesting, if cutting, piece on the Thi4f news. Looks like Eidos (or is that 4idos) is trying to prove their bonafides with the faithful by the adoption of t3h 1337 5p34k.
ReplyDeleteSince when DID e=4 in leet speak? If youre going to sink to our level in a blatant show of wank-ridden pandering, you might want to make sure you do it correctly....otherwise you just look like a bunch of tools.

Lol. You're right. I never noticed it at first (I guess an example of the brain making up for missing characters, I'm sure you've read that chain e-mail over the past few years that removes letters from some words but demonstrates the human brain can still fill in the gaps). But yes usually e=3 in 1337 speak so that's kind of weird how they did that. I guess they just wanted to fit a 4 somewhere and that e was the closest character to 4 I guess!
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm more concerned about is Eidos Montreal stuffing the series up. I mean the Deus Ex and Thief games are considered classics so not only do you have extremely high expectations from the fans, you've also got a relatively unknown and new developer making them.
