Remakes and remasters of classic games seems to be all the rage nowadays. We've already had a HD remaster of Age of Empires II so why not a HD remaster of the original Age of Empires? To be honest, I'm probably more excited by a remaster to the original AoE than AoE II mainly because my first experience with the franchise was with the first game and the game wasn't as complex as its successor. The soundtrack was awesome too and had a really primal feel to it.

The devs have promised for it to be a 4K remastered version of the original with upgraded art assets, complete new narration throughout and hundreds of new and redone sound effects (they'd better not touch "wololo", "rogan?" and "erectus" though!). The game will have single player, multiplayer and the expansion Rise of Rome meaning there will be 16 civilizations to play with along with 10 campaigns. You'll even be given the opportunity to play the game in "classic mode" for those wanting to play the game "au naturel".

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition happens to be the first game on this list voted by three of our judges so there's definitely quite a bit of interest here, although it remains to be seen (since this is a Microsoft title) whether the game will be available from the Windows Store only or whether they'll eventually release the game on Steam (like its sequel Age of Empires II HD).
