This is it. The one you've all been waiting for. The numero uno on the list of games we'd like to get our hands on in 2015 and this time, emphasise the we because this is the only game out of the nominees that all three contributors voted for. We are talking about the new Star Wars: Battlefront.
Before we go any further though, let's talk about the original Star Wars: Battlefront which came out 10 years ago in 2004. While the game looks a lot like a Star Wars version of Battlefield 2 and is even similar to the Conquest game mode from the Battlefield series, the game wasn't made by D.I.C.E. but by Pandemic Studios instead. Like the Battlefield series though, you got to fight across various maps except that the maps and vehicles on these maps were based on the Star Wars universe. Also like Battlefield, you were able to choose a class to play with and the game supported large 64-player servers.
Why do I keep making these comparisons to Battlefield? It's because D.I.C.E. are the ones responsible for making this reboot or remake or whatever it is. There hasn't been too much footage yet but what they've shown so far is absolutely stunning, but that's the Frostbite 3 engine for you (on a good day).
While I was a bit disappointed at how buggy the release of Battlefield 4 was I'm cautiously optimistic that D.I.C.E. will have a less buggy release with Star Wars: Battlefront. D.I.C.E. have even delayed any plans of releasing another Battlefield game next year (besides Battlefield Hardline) so they can focus most of their development effort on Star Wars: Battlefront. So fingers crossed we get a release with only minor bugs hey? I mean D.I.C.E. don't want to stuff this up. It's friggin' Star Wars.
