What I've Been Playing This Week (aka Pile of Shame Sunday)

I finally came across one of the missions that offered a Templar key as a reward

The following post is part of a series of posts that are published every Sunday to update readers on what Mark G has been up to with respect to finishing off games on his "Pile of Shame". The games to target are picked by Choicest Games contributors Choona, Luke and myself. As I'll be talking about my progress through these games, there may be spoilers ahead, especially for games containing a narrative. Consider yourself warned.

Quake II: Quad Damage

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 20%
I finally managed to accidentally kill myself a couple times and it's annoying since back in the good ol' days, you didn't have the game holding your hand with autosaves, you actually had to remember to save your game and save it often. So, I ended up having to restore the game from a much earlier part in the level. Another problem I'm having is that I seem to be running out of ammo really fast (it doesn't help that the chaingun chews through the 200 bullets you carry in a matter of seconds). I see lots of health packs but most of the time I don't need them.

For Honor

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 10%
Didn't play For Honor this week – had no friends to play with and wasn't keen on trying it by myself ☹.

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 61%
I've spent a couple of hours this week playing Hero-U and man, fighting zombie pirates is tough… if only I had some voodoo root beer 😉. Eventually, I found a neat trick which involves running backwards and throwing daggers at the zombies so that they never can touch you. I eventually challenged the Zombie Pirate Captain Le Chuck to a game of cards and beat him! As a reward, I received a key and hat (a very important hat it turns out as it granted me the ability to lead my own zombie crew to attack a huge Kraken). As a result, I finished one of the side quests and made one of my classmates very happy.

I'm now delving into the Catacombs and they're even more difficult than the Sea Caves! Thanks to a lot of Undead (as you'd expect in the Catacombs) I've tried giving myself magical protection by eating "Fairy Parasol" mushrooms but they don't seem to have any effect, sadly. I'm hoping that sneaking around will actually work since I don't really have any other option at the moment.

Stardew Valley

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 20%
On hold while I'm playing other games. 😊

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

  • Picked by Me
  • Percentage Complete = 25%
I haven't made any further progress on this – it's now on hold while I am distracted by… well… a lot of other games 😊.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

  • Picked by Luke
  • Percentage Complete = 48%
I finally found one of the Templar quests (where you get a Templar key as a reward) and it was situated in Havana where I had to help this female pirate kill her ex-boyfriend (I can't quite recall why but he was a Templar so he had it coming to him). Also started another one of the quests in Nassau. I suppose they're all located in the major hubs so I'm going to keep my eye out for them in the future.

Hacknet

  • Picked by Choona
  • Percentage Complete = 100%
The game seems to become more science fiction than science fact towards the end but it's still a good ending nonetheless and Carpenter Brut's track "Roller Mobster" playing in the background is definitely a highlight.

With Hacknet out of the way, I can now move on to Choona's next pick for my Pile of Shame game, the classic Curse of Monkey Island! Yes, I've completed CMI before but I've never reviewed it, so it's about time I do 😊.
